On Monday April 2, 2012 a new Pennsylvania law drafted to protect bicyclists from car accident injuries went into effect. On that same day, a Lehigh Valley bike safety advocate was hit by a car in Bethlehem. The bike safety advocate who has been identified as Frank Pavlick was hit from behind on the Fahy Bridge. He suffered some injuries but is expected to survive.
The Bethlehem Police Commissioner has told the media that the driver clearly disobeyed the four foot distance that the new PA bike safety law requires be left between a car and cyclist and that the driver will be cited for the violation.
We wish Mr. Pavlick a fast and complete recovery from his bike accident injuries.
