2 Injured in Washington County Toll Booth Crash

Yesterday morning, Wednesday March 24, a serious crash occurred on the Mon – Fayette Expressway (Route 43) in Washington County.  The accident occurred just after 6:30 a.m. at the California, PA toll booth.

A car driven by Kami Ekale, age 42 of Somerset, went out of control and struck the curb between the toll lanes.  Her car then rear ended the vehicle in front of her which was driven by Albert Gauden, Jr., age 55 of West Newton.

The force of the collision forced Mr. Gauden’s car into the EZ Pass Lane where it destroyed the EZ Pass equipment.  That lane will remain closed indefinitely.

Both drivers, Ms. Ekale and Mr. Gauden, suffered injuries and were taken to Mon Fayette Hospital.  Their condition has not been released.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.  Ms. Ekale claims that her car unintentionally accelerated but the state trooper working on the case says that an inspection of the vehicle does not support that claim.
