On May 21, 2010 the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued a recall of approximately 3800 Lexus vehicles because of a potential problem with the electrical steering. The recalled models include the LS460 (2009-2010), LS460L (2009-2010), LS600H (2010) and the LS600HL (2010).
According to the recall notice the steering wheel can become off centered up to 90 degrees when the driver makes a turn, thereby significantly increasing the risk of a crash. Toyota has halted production of these vehicles and urges people who own the recalled Lexus vehicles to contact a dealer about a repair which should be available soon.
This recall adds to the millions of Toyota and Lexus vehicles already recalled during 2010.
