On November 14, 2011 Paul Haraputczyk was traveling northbound on Route 222 in Lower Macungie Township. Shortly before 2:45 p.m. he stopped at the traffic light at Krocks Road and was reportedly rear ended by Carlos Hernandez.

Police report that Mr. Hernandez has been cited for careless driving and that Mr. Haraputczyk was injured in the crash. Mr. Haraputcyzk’s passenger, Gabriella Lee, was not reported as injured in this Pennsylvania car accident.

A 24 year old man from Lancaster was injured in a hit and run accident last week. The crash occurred in the early morning hours of October 27 on West King Street.  According to police, the driver of a pickup truck ran a red light and crashed in to the Lancaster man’s car, 2 planters, a fire hydrant and the display windows at a local barber shop.

The victim, who has been identified as Ryan Brown, had to be freed from his vehicle by emergency workers. He was taken to Lancaster General Hospital and reported to be in serious condition later in the day.

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene of the accident. The truck was found and is registered in Pennsylvania.  Police were searching for the driver of the pickup in this Pennsylvania hit and run accident.

A two vehicle Pennsylvania accident injured seven people in Jefferson Township on Wednesday July 6.  Fayette County police have told the media that the cause of the crash was a 16 year old driver who ran a stop sign.  That driver is expected to face charges.  When the driver ran the stop sign the driver’s SUV collided with another SUV.  The other SUV flipped over with women and children inside.

All seven people who were injured in this crash were taken to local hospitals.  We wish them a fast and complete recovery.

In just the past three weeks, there have been three fatal motor vehicle crashes on a section of Route 33 in Monroe County.  The accidents have occurred in the area from Route 209 in Stroud Township to the border of Northampton County.

Traffic on Route 33 is up 27% in the past decade.  It is a popular way to travel for cars and trucks looking to reach New Jersey, New York or the Lehigh Valley.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has different improvements planned to help increase safety on this road but reminds motorists that the key to safety on Route 33 and elsewhere is for drivers to pay attention, to obey the speed limit, to stay sober and to not use cell phones while driving.

On Monday afternoon a van and a car were involved in a serious crash on Route 309 in Schuylkill County,  At approximately 2:30 on June 7, 2010 a van was heading north on Route 309 and hit a car that was leaving a strip mall.

6 people were injured in the accident and 3 of them suffered serious injuries.  According to the Police in West Penn Township, at least two people were ejected from the van.  Their injuries are believed to be critical.  Both of the people ejected from the van and another person who was in the van were flown to trauma centers.  Two men in the car and a woman from another car were taken to another hospital for treatment.

The cause of this Pennsylvania car crash remains under investigation.

Now We Know: Tickling Can be a Dangerous Distraction While Driving

On Sunday June 6, 2010 a 16 year old Schuylkill County driver was hurt when her boyfriend started tickling her while she was driving on Route 325 in Rush Township.  The girl, apparently distracted by the tickling, went off the road and hit a tree. She was taken to Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.

Distracted driving can happen in many different ways.  It is not always a cell phone that causes the distraction.  We are pleased to report that this driver only had minor injuries as a result of her distracted driving accident. We hope that other drivers learn from this distracted driving incident and avoid future accidents.

On Friday evening June 4, 2010 a 38 year old woman from Grantville, PA was hurt in a two car crash.  Rebecca Moyer of Allentown Blvd, Grantville was driving on East Main Street in Palmyra when her car collided with the vehicle of 42 year old Mitchell Zimmerman of Oliver Park Drive in North Annville Township, PA.  The accident happened around 5:23 p.m. Friday evening in the 900 block of East Main Street.

Ms. Moyer was taken by ambulance to Hershey Medical Center where she was admitted.  Mr. Zimmerman was cited for vehicles entering or crossing roadway.

Just before 11 a.m. yesterday, a 75 year old driver drove the wrong way on Route 222 in Bern Township and caused a 5 vehicle crash.  The driver got on Route 222 at the Spring Ridge Interchange, near the Body Zone and the accident occurred just before the bridge over the Tulpehocken Creek.

The driver was killed in this Pennsylvania car accident.

The elderly driver’s car hit a car driven by Paul Wise head on.  Mr. Wise was seriously injured and taken to Reading Hospital.  Another person was also taken to Reading Hospital and two injured people were taken to St Joseph Medical Center. Their identities and conditions have not yet been released.

There is no word on what caused the elderly driver to head the wrong way on Route 222.
