2 Bucks County Motorcycle Accidents Result in Injuries on Wednesday

Two motorcycle accidents occurred in the Greater Philadelphia area on Wednesday.  The first accident occurred in Hilltown when 45 year old motorcyclist Stephen Lee from Holland collided with a car at the intersection of Hilltown Pike and Diamond Street.  According to police, the accident occurred when a Honda Civic driven by 76 year old Roseann Hoffman of Lansdale was making a left turn onto Diamond Street and struck Mr. Lee’s motorcycle. Mr. Lee was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital to treat a possible broken shoulder. 

The second accident occurred Wednesday afternoon when a motorcycle driven by 23 year old Jacob Hartman crashed with an SUV in West Rockhill at Route 152 and State Road.  According to police, this accident happened when Mr. Hartman was attempting to make a left turn onto Route 152 from State Road and collided with a car traveling west across Route 152 from Highland Park Road.  That car was driven by 70 year old John Lacava of Gilbertsville.  Hartman is in fair condition at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Clarion County Accident Kills Motorcyclist

On Saturday afternoon, April 2, 2010 Thomas Shankle was riding his motorcycle east on Route 68 in Monroe.  A minivan traveling in front of Mr. Shankle was stopped on Route 68 waiting to turn into a driveway.  Mr. Shankle slowed down to wait for the minivan to turn.  The driver traveling behind Mr. Shankle, Ms. Lauer, did not slow down and slammed into Mr. Shankle’s motorcycle.

The accident threw Thomas Shankle from his motorcycle.  The motorcycle was trapped between Ms. Lauer’s car and the minivan.  Mr. Shankle was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident but he died as a result of his injuries.  Thomas Shankle was 45 years old and a resident of Worthington, in Armstrong County.

Police are still reconstructing the accident and have announced that charges may be filed against Ms. Lauer because, at this time, this tragic accident seems to have been caused by driver error.

16 Year Old Mt. Wolf Boy Killed in a Motorcycle Truck Accident

On Saturday afternoon, Leon Travers was riding his motorcycle southbound on North Main Street in Shrewsbury Township, York County, Pennsylvania when a pickup truck pulled out of a business along Main Street and Travers crashed into the side of the truck.  The accident happened at approximately 12:13 pm.

Leon Travers, of Mt. Wolf, was 16 years old. He was a junior at Northeastern High School where he was part of the wrestling team.

News reports indicate that Travers was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident but it may have been knocked loose during the accident.  He was taken by ambulance to York Hospital with multiple blunt force trauma injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital at approximately 12:38 pm – less than one half hour after the accident.

An autopsy was scheduled for yesterday and state police are still investigating the cause of the accident.

Kutztown University Student Seriously Hurt in Accident

A Kutztown University student was seriously hurt in an on campus accident late yesterday afternoon.  The accident occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Thursday March 18, 2010 in the 15100 block of Kutztown Road.

The accident happened when a motorcycle traveling eastbound collided with a car that was traveling westbound and pulling into a private driveway.

The driver of the motorcycle suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Lehigh hospital.  The name of the victim has not yet been released.  Both the driver of the motorcycle and the driver of the car involved in the accident have been identified as Kutztown University students.

An accident reconstruction team was working at the accident scene for several hours yesterday and is encouraging witnesses of this serious crash to call 610-683-8740.
