6 Year Old Boy and His Grandmother Injured While Waiting for School Bus

Last Friday a 6 year old boy and his grandmother were waiting for a school bus on Mill Street in New Castle.  While they were waiting a driver who has been identified as Samuel Abraham allegedly lost control of his car and hit them where they were standing on the sidewalk.  What caused Mr. Abraham to lose control and hit the young boy and his grandmother remains under investigation.

Both the child and the grandmother were taken to Jamison Hospital.  The boy was later transferred to a Pittsburgh hospital.  There is no word yet on the conditions or the identities of the victims of this Pennsylvania pedestrian accident.

School Van Crashes in Pittsburgh

On Friday morning, a school van transporting children to the Woodland Hills School District crashed on Liberty Avenue in Pittsburgh.  The driver of the van, Russell Bangham of Monroeville died in the crash.  Two students were taken to Children’s Hospital with injuries.

The students, whose names have not yet been released, have been identified as sisters.  The older sister is a seventh grader at Woodland Hills Jr. High School in Swissvale and the younger sister is a third grader at Wilkins Elementary School.

The cause of this Pennsylvania crash is still under investigation.

What Happened on Veterans Bridge Saturday Night?

One person was killed and another was critically injured in a late night accident in Washington County on Saturday. The accident occurred on a southbound ramp of Veterans Bridge around 11:40 Saturday night. 

Police report that 21 year old Matthew John Risha was driving the wrong way on the bridge and collided with another vehicle.  Mr. Risha was killed in the accident.  The other driver, who has not yet been identified to the media, was critically injured and taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital.

The investigation into this Pittsburgh car accident is ongoing.

Bride to Be Sees Mother Critically Hurt in Pittsburgh Crash

Three car crashes occurred along the same stretch of Pittsburgh roadway last Friday.  The most severe of the accidents injured seven people, including several people going to a rehearsal dinner for a wedding that was to take place on Saturday June 12, 2010. 

The wedding has been postponed because the mother of the bride was critically injured in the accident.  She has been identified as Brenda Schragel.  The bride’s stepfather, Keith Schragel, was also seriously injured. 

The accident occurred on Clairton Boulevard near a work zone.  PennDOT has stated that the three car accidents which occurred on Friday, and the six that occurred in total last week, were all due to driver error and not a result of construction on the road.
