7 Halloween Safety Tips for Drivers and Pedestrians

Wednesday, October 27th, 2010

This Sunday, witches, goblins, cartoon characters and perhaps even a past president or two will be making their way through your neighborhood.  In order to receive all of your visitors safely, it is important to:

  • Remember that young children will be very excited on Halloween night and may dart into the road faster than a parent can hold them back;
  • Drive slowly with your lights on, even before dusk;
  • Put down your cell phone and do not let anything distract your attention from the road;
  • Exercise extreme caution at driveways and intersections;
  • Refrain from driving if at all possible;
  • Stay within an arm’s reach of children if you accompany them trick or treating; and
  • Make sure to wear reflective patches or clothing when you are trick or treating.

Don’t let Halloween magic end in a tragic car accident.  Instead, enjoy the holiday safely by following the tips described above.

Would You Rather Walk Down a Philadelphia Street or a New York City Street?

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

Before you answer, you might want to consider the findings of The New York City Pedestrian Safety Study and Action Plan issued in August 2010.  According to the study, New York City had a traffic fatality rate of 3.49 per 100,000 people and Philadelphia had a rate of 6.22 per 100,000 people.

Pedestrian crashes have a significant impact, not only on the individual victim, but also on the victim’s family and the greater community.  The victim may suffer physical injuries, the family may suffer financial and emotional injuries, and the community may suffer from not feeling safe walking around the city.

If you’ve been injured, or if you have lost a loved one, in a Philadelphia pedestrian accident or any other Pennsylvania accident then we encourage you t o call a Pennsylvania injury lawyer for a free consultation about your rights.  Together, we may be able to make our city safer and help you with your individual recovery.
