One Hour Results in More than 15 Accidents in the Poconos Yesterday

The weather and road conditions were less than ideal in many parts of Pennsylvania yesterday.  However, drivers in Long Pond and Mount Pocono had to contend with not only wet roads but also with slippery snow and freezing rain.  The temperature dropped suddenly at about 2:30 pm and the heavy rain turned into winter weather.

In just the one hour period from approximately 2:30-3:30 pm the Monroe County 911 Control Center reported receiving calls of 15-20 accidents along Long Pond Road and Route 196.  The snow continued after 3:30 and additional accidents did occur but the number dropped substantially once the road crews began to treat the roads.

The extent of the injuries and the names of the people who were injured have not yet been released.
