Serious Crash on I-81 Requires 3 Helicopters to Bring Victims to Safety

It took three helicopters to fly accident victims to medical facilities after a serious crash on Interstate 81 early Sunday morning.  The accident happened around shortly after 7 a.m. just south of Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, near Exit 24 in Franklin County. 

Police report that a head on collision happened around 7:10 a.m. and that 20 year old Trenda Marie Smith, 42 year old Steven Myers and an unidentified 17 year old boy were flown to York Hospital.  Their conditions are not currently known but no fatalities have been reported.

Police report that Smith was travelling south in the northbound lane of I -81 and hit a car driven by Myers head on.  The 17 year old boy was a passenger in Myers’ car.  The accident closed down the northbound lanes of I-81 for approximately 5 hours yesterday.
